Calhoun County, AL Calhoun County, Alabama White Plains wins four games on Saturday in order to win Albertville Pre-Area Tournament; Alexandria, Oxford each win two during the tournament. PV split two games.

White Plains’ softball team recently completed its biggest game of the year.

Leighton Arnold hit home runs three times and scored four runs in the Wildcats defeated Albertville 7-5 in the Saturday game, completing 5-1 at the Pre-Area Tournament at Sand Mountain Park.

White Plains (25-13) prevailed in a 22-team event which included Alexandria, Oxford, Piedmont, Pleasant Valley and Spring Garden. The tournament was played at the venue that hosts the AHSAA East Regional, which is scheduled on May 9-12.

White Plains split two Friday games, edging DAR 8-1, and defeating Sand Rock 2-1.

The Wildcats scored a 4-0 win on Saturday, defeating Arab 3-1, Fort Payne 5-1, East Hamilton (Tenn.) 8-7, and Albertville.

“Today was an important move in the right direction” White Plains coach Tiffany Williams said. “Our girls were there on Saturday.”

In the game against Albertville, Hallie Williams went 2-for-3, scoring a double, two runs, and an RBI. Callie Richardson had two hits and an RBI and Cassidy Arnold had a single and an RBI.

Arnold And Kannon Slaughter worked together to hold Albertville to just five hitting and two runs in five innings. They hit five batters.

The semifinals were played in the afternoon. White Plains took an eight-to-3 lead and scored five runs during the fifth. and then fought off the East Hamilton rally of four runs at the fifth inning’s bottom.

Karli Otwell had a great game in the game against East Hamilton, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Richardson scored a triple in addition to her two hits, and she had two RBIs and Arnold hit a home run,

Leighton Arnold threw a two-hit game for Fort Payne. Fort Payne. She limited Fort Payne’s Arab to just three hits, with seven strikeouts over five innings. She as well as Richardson hit home runs on the Knights.

She hit 20 home runs, and also surpassed 200 strikeouts during the season, averaging an impressive 214.

The worst report for White Plains was another injury. Cooper Martin sustained a broken clavicle, and is expected to miss the remainder of this season. The Wildcats have lost Kristen Rhodes and Braeton Moran due to injuries earlier in the season.

“We’re praying for Martin (Martin) and the other two players who have injuries,” Williams said. “It was hard to see another player injured, but we persevered together, did what we needed to, and in the end, played for one another.”

ALEXANDRIA:The Valley Cubs played to 2-2 in Albertville with an 8-4 win over Piedmont.

In the tournament’s sole match between teams from the area, Charlee Parris homered while being 2-for-3, with four RBIs. Allyssa Hunt hit 2-for-3, with 2 runs and a double and Brenlee Sparks hit 2-for-3, scoring one run. Lauren Weber tripled and drove into a run, while Jill Cockrell hit a solo home run.

Makenna Prickett as well as Pressley Slaton were the team that scored the victory against Piedmont with 11 hits in six innings, and two earned runs.

Alexandria (22-18) Also, Alexandria defeated Ider 8-5, and then lost against Fort Payne 2-1 and Sand Rock 8-7.

In the game against Ider, Cockrell hit a solo home hit. Christian Hess had a triple double, RBI and a double in addition to Weber hit a triple in her two hits, and an RBI.

Oxford:Oxford went 2-2 in Albertville winning against Beauregard 9-0, beating Hokes Bluff 12-1, before falling in the final to North Jackson 8-3 and Cedar Bluff 6-2.

Oxford (24-8) batted 11 hits and scored 11 RBIs in the game against Hokes Bluff. Raina Zachery went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double as did Justice Woods was 2-for-3 with a triple with three runs as well as two RBIs.

Oxford also received three points from Ashlyn Burns, as well as Doubles were also scored by Kenlee Rogers as well as Madison Murphy.

Berkley Mooney pitched a 3-hitter against Beauregard and struck out 10 batters in six innings. Mooney also scored two RBIs and a double.

Zachery hit 2-for-2, with an RBI, a run as well as three RBIs. Burns scored three hits, a double and a run. He also had an RBI.

Rodgers and Adajiah wilson each scored two hits. Rodgers had a 3-for-3 performance, while Wilson was able to score an RBI.

PLEASANT VALLEYThe Raiders (14-11) were 1-1 beating Valley Head 11-0 and falling to East Hamilton 4-0 in a lightning-shortened game, before ending their game due to Elite Night on Saturday.

For Valley Head, Ellie Patterson and Haylie Lee teamed up for one-hit. Each were able to get two strikes.

Madyson Cromer homered twice and scored three runs. Lily Henry was 2-for-2 with an RBI, a run with three RBIs.

Rebekah Gannaway doubled, and scored two runs. Macey Roper was 2-for-2, with three runs, a double as well as an RBI.

PiEDMONTThe Bulldogs (28-14) lost 0-4 in Albertville defeating Alexandria 8-4. Then they lost to Beauregard 12-4 Ider 3-1 as well as Fort Payne 6-4. Ider 3-1 and Fort Payne 6-4. find more sports news stories…]
