Calhoun County, AL Calhoun County, AlabamaThe Calhoun County began in January 2, 2019, and the program has offered reduced costs for spay and neuters to more than 6000 cats and dogs within Calhoun County. The program isn’t the first time that the county has a new commissioner, Terry Howell spoke to the Calhoun Journal and stressed that the main problem is the education. He is keen to concentrate on education regarding the issue of overpopulation as well as how to use the Snip It program and how it operates within the county. He’s pushing for greater awareness of the program within schools in the area. Because he believes that children will pass on the information to their parents.
The program is run through the County Commission in conjunction with Alabama Spay/Neuter. The residents of the unincorporated region of the County may be given vouchers in the amount of $25. If residents reside within the boundaries of a municipality, or within its police jurisdiction the cost will be in the following order:
Female Dog Spay ………. $65.00 Male Dog Neuter ………… $50.00
Female cat spay ……….. $50.00
Male Cat Neuter …………. $35.00
The only exceptions to these prices are those who reside in Ohatchee, Jacksonville, and Oxford who cover a portion of the cost for the reduced cost of $15. Households are restricted to five tickets. Tickets are available for purchase in the Calhoun County Commision office. If the pet isn’t up to date on their rabies vaccination, Alabama Spay/Neuter will provide the vaccination once they are attending the surgery for an expense of $22 which will be charged to the pet’s owner. If the pet is currently with their rabies vaccination, Alabama Spay/Neuter will need the pet’s owner bring their rabies certificate (not tags) along when they bring their pet in for an appointment. Alabama Spay/Neuter will make a replica of the rabies certification for medical records and then send the original along with the pet. There aren’t any fees for surgery under this program due to overweight, in-heat or pregnancy.
