Jacksonville, AL –Per the JSU Media department Terry Casey Vice President for Student affairs, was awarded with the prize for outstanding first Year Student Advocate award from the National Resource Center for First Year Experience and Students in Transition during the 42nd Annual First Year Experience Conference in Los Angeles on Feb. 3 – 6. As a former first-generation student He has dedicated his life to making students feel comfortable at JSU. He was the Director of Student Life as well as dean of students prior to becoming vice president.

Terry W. Casey is a graduate of Jacksonville State University. He graduated with a bachelor of Science in finance as well as a Master in Science in Education, with the concentration on counseling and student administration of personnel. He also was a student at his time at the University of Alabama. In 2017, he received the honor of being recognized by JSU as JSU Faculty/Staff of the Year by JSU’s Dean of Students.

Terry has been employed at JSU for more than 24 years. Terry has been involved in The Student Government Association, Fraternity and Sorority Life as well as The Gamecock Orientation program, facility management, as well as first- and second-year experiences. Terry together with a few colleagues from his faculty established JSU’s First-Year Experience Course in the year 2010. Terry began the career path at JSU as an Admissions Counselor.

The Vice Director of Student Affairs collaborates in collaboration with The Dean of Students Office, the Office of Community Standards as well as Student Ethical as well as the Title IX and Residence Life as well as Counseling Services and Testing. He is an active participant in NASPA (Student Administration of Student Affairs in the Higher Educational Sector), AACRAO (American Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers), AFA (Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors) as well as NODA (Association of Transition, Orientation and Student Retention).
