Anniston, AL –Per the city of Anniston the Leighton Avenue resurfacing project will begin on the 6th of February 2023. The scope of the project is the resurfacing about three miles Leighton Avenue, from its intersection with 22nd Street to its intersection with O-Street.
The contractor on the project, Vulcan Materials, plans to begin milling operations February. 6th (02/06/23). The work will begin at 7:15 AM at the northern part of the project, located at the corner between Leighton Avenue and East 22nd Street. It is anticipated that the project will shut down one lane at time and allow traffic to move through with the help of flaggers. Expect delays and be mindful of loose gravel at the time. Vulcan’s initial work will proceed from the intersection of Leighton to East 22nd to its intersection with East 8th Street.
This will allow both the Anniston Water Works and Sewer Board to begin work on the southern end of the project to relocate the water main. Anniston Water Works will be doing this work from February. 2nd through February. 10th . Leighton Avenue from its intersection with East 4th Street to its intersection with A-Street at approximately 6:30 am until 2:30 pm each day. From the time of this announcement, each day, this portion of Leighton Avenue will be completely shut. At 2:30 pm, every day, just one lanes will be open for traffic.
This resurfacing work will take a while to complete because various tasks like moving water mains, along with road milling will be coordinated and finished. Therefore, throughout the duration of this project, keep track on the “road work ahead indications” which will be in the streets of Leighton while work is progressing.
