Anniston, AL – Senior Elliott, an underlying thread throughout the recent seasons of Donoho’s deep run will play his final game season for the Falcons in the final game of the season in Lindsay Lane
By Joe Medley
Steve Gendron and Lucas Elliott did not want their coach to stop, and not on Wednesday, and not in this manner.
It was difficult enough to watch another long Donoho playoff run come to an end in the quarterfinals. losing 15-5 and 4-0 to Lindsay Lane.
The repercussions of losing an experienced senior and Wallace State-Selma player, who was instrumental in record-setting fashion to Falcon runs that went as far as the 2021 state championship series began to set in the moment he was able to wipe the sweat and tear-stained eye off his face.
“He’s likely to become difficult for anyone to substitute,” Gendron said.
Five days before Wednesday’s Donoho second-round victory over Fayetteville, Elliott Lucas became the first Falcon who had three consecutive seasons of 40-hits. After Wednesday’s defeat against Lindsay Lane, he reached the plate without incident in 56 games, each game dating to the 2022 season.
The stats go into depth with Elliott Gendron, who stepped into the team when he was in eighth grade, in the year 2019, however Gendron has a lot more to offer.
“He’s an important leader for the team and players are influenced by the man,” he said. “Great offensive player, great defensive catcher. … The guy accomplished lots of very good things for us during his time. We’ll keep in contact. We’ll remain friends And when he returns back, he’ll throw BP at them, or whatever.
“He’s an avid ball player man. One of the best compliments one can get is that you’re a complete ballplayer, and that’s precisely what the man is.”
Elliott has a hit in each of his previous two games in high school, and also an RBI in the most recent game. He was a victim of Blake Sewell’s four-hit game in Game 1. The game also included six walks and five Donoho mistakes.
Three Donoho mistakes played a part in Game 2 in which Donoho lead 3-0 at the start of. They were within 6-4. Falcons could not get within 4-4 before Lindsay Lane’s ninth inning, which scored nine runs.
Lindsay Lane pitcher Ray Anderson Ray Anderson was dominant. Ray Anderson was the dominant pitcher. Northwest Shoals Community College signee was able to match Sewell’s four-hitter with 12 strikeouts, and one walking in the first game. the 101 pitches that he pitched in Game 1 allowed him to rebound and make a comeback in the closing innings of Game 2 and he threw two strikeouts in the game.
It wasn’t the most ideal time for the team who finished 23-5 and was ranked at No. 3 in the class of 2A after being forced to shift from 1A due to the Alabama High School Association’s competitive balance policy for schools that are private.
The good thing for Doho fans is that everyone except for two seniors plan to return. The returnees comprise all of Donoho’s top pitchers. This is including Peyton Webb, who also set career and season records for home runs.
Graduation loss includes Sean Keel, who got an opportunity to bat in the Falcons’ sixth 6th.
Elliott was a frequent participant in the tournament going from the year 2019, when Donoho made records by making it to the quarterfinals. The time, which includes the COVID-shortened season in 2020, features four quarterfinals with two semifinal appearances, and a finals trip.
The two of them, Gendron as well as Gendron represent the threads which connect everything.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure watching Gendron playing,” Gendron said.
The two exchanged the affection of a hug and handshake as discussions after the game ended on Wednesday.
“Good work,” Gendron said to Elliott. “I enjoyed it. You’re a ballplayer, aren’t you?”
“Oh sure,” Elliott said.
“Don’t alter this,” Gendron said. “Don’t alter the way you do that. Maintain that as a rule.”
Elliott was at peace for his final press conference as a student athlete at the high school.
“I’ve been witness to a lot people go and come before my time,” he said. “I simply would like to leave a mark. I’m hoping that I’ve done a good job by showing them something to adhere to, rather than simple rules to follow or guidelines. I hope they learn what to do in the field, and how to behave in the dugout and how to behave towards other players and good sportsmanship.”
