People who think that two private Class 1A schools can rival each other aren’t seeing Faith Christian or Donoho in action recently.
Thomas Curlee scored 18 points of his 25 in the second period, and Faith’s boys bounced back from Thursday’s loss to Donoho by winning 65-50 against the Falcons in Monday’s Calhoun County tournament action at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
No 7 seed Faith (15-6), earned a shot to No. In Tuesday’s quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m., 2 Oxford, the only Class 6A school in the county, was victorious.
Cory Hughes, Faith coach, said that they had played them in a scrimmage before the season began. “They are crazy athletic.” “Joel Van Meter coaches defense, so I’m thrilled to be able to play them. They’re going to press us like crazy. [read more…]

The two teams are adamant on a big stage but Saks prevails over Weaver
Weaver, a ninth-seeded player, entered the Calhoun County tournament match with No. Eight Saks had three varsity players from Pete Mathews Coliseum. Saks had two.
Beau Winn, Weaver’s coach, put it in basketball terms.
He said, “Between Jonathan (Saks coach) Miller and me, we had a starting five players who’ve played at ‘The Pete.'”
The result was evident as both teams played to a 26 point first half. Saks, however, found the mark sufficient to win 44-30
The Wildcats (6-6), earned the right to play in Tuesday’s quarterfinal at 7:30 p.m. against the defending Class 4A state champion Jacksonville. [read more…]
After an early shootout with JCA , Wildcats are able to break free thanks to Wheeler’s shooting touch.
Josh Wheeler is a long-time White Plains coach Chris Randall’s best coach.
Randall stated, “Josh was the only child I’ve ever taken out to not shoot.”
Monday was a day of celebration for sixth seed White Plains. Wheeler made three 3-pointers Monday and also scored a few fastbreak baskets. White Plains won 71-45 over No. 11 Jacksonville Christian.
White Plains extended its winning streak to 4 games and was able to earn a match with No. 3 Alexandria in Wednesday’s 4:30 pm. quarterfinal. [read more…]

Alleyoop celebrates Piedmont’s victory; Bulldogs win a rematch against Anniston
Ishmael Bethel lost Monday’s first dunk to a walking call, but fate and Rollie pinto gave him another chance.
Bethel also delivered second-chance thunder.
The Bulldogs won 73-50 over No. 5 seed Piedmont thanks to their alley-oop partnership with 2:30 to go. 13 Pleasant Valley at the Calhoun County tournament.
The Bulldogs’ 11th win in 12 games, Piedmont, lifted them to 15-3 and earned them a rematch against No. 4 Anniston in Wednesday’s 7:30 p.m. semifinal. [read more…]
