Montgomery (AL) –Governor Kay Ivey announced Thursday that more than $40M in state transportation funding has been awarded to various cities and counties for road and bridge projects. Calhoun County isn’t on the 2023 list, but it received $2,685,844.73 last year under the Rebuild Alabama Act.

Funding is available through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II, a program established by the Rebuild Alabama Act. Rebuild Alabama Act stipulates that ATRIP-II must be an annual program that sets aside at least $30 million from ALDOT’s share in new gas tax revenue to fund projects of local interest.

Governor Ivey said, “I am proud that I have announced the largest round of funding for local projects since the passage the Rebuild Alabama Act.” “Our decision to address Alabama’s infrastructure problems is paying huge dividends in many vital areas. I am delighted to continue building on that momentum and move forward with this year’s projects.”

Since the inception of ATRIP-II in 2019, more than $140million has been awarded to the state in transportation funds by ATRIP-II.

For a total amount of just over $40million in state transportation funding, 33 projects were selected. 18 of the projects that were awarded funding came from counties and cities that had contributed more than $7million in local funds. The ATRIP-II program does not require that local governments provide matching funds in order to be eligible.

The ATRIP-II Committee, established by the Rebuild Alabama Act, selected the projects. Many of the projects selected will likely be in contract by the end of the fiscal year 2023. All projects must move forward within the two-year period after funds are awarded.
