Montgomery, AL –Earlier this week, Governor Kay Ivey on Tuesday issued the following statement:
“Alabama is determined to help our country to be a winner in this space battle, and not to be a slow plod towards it. Let me remind everyone of what everybody already is aware of: Alabama is the only proper place to be to the Space Command Headquarters, and the support for this mission is vital for progress in our nation’s security.
“Last week we had a bipartisan Alabama delegation came to light specifics regarding the permanent nature of Space Command Headquarters. What is the reason why we should not have an permanent headquarters for a key part that is part of national security? There are a myriad of issues that need to be addressed and I commend the Chairman Rogers, Representatives Strong and Sewell along with everyone on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee for initiating this investigation.
“Alabama In every way – remains determined to see the project through. Everyone agrees, because the facts prove that Redstone could, should and will become home to Space Command Headquarters.
“Secretary Kendall and General Dickinson I’m eager to be with me on the grounds of Redstone Arsenal very soon to officially welcome the headquarters into Alabama.” – Governor Kay Ivey
This follows up on the statement that Rep. Mike Rogers stated last week: “Today, I launched an investigation into the ongoing delay with respect to SPACECOM Headquarters basing decision.” Spacecom Headquarters base choice,” said Chairman Rogers. “The reality is, it is clear that the Air Force already made the right decision more than two years back. This decision was validated by the GAO as well as the DoD Inspector General more than one year earlier. The decision was based on several factors. Redstone Arsenal located in Huntsville, Alabama was the obvious winner of evaluation as well as Selection phase. I am extremely concerned that the continual delay in making this decision final is politically motivated and a threat to our security.”
“I have asked House Armed Services Committee Chairman, Mike Rogers, open an investigation of Biden’s failure to announce a permanent home for the U.S. Space Command (SPACECOM) headquarters,” said Rep. Dale Strong. “The delay of the Administration is a risk of politicizing the process, which is grounded in facts. Injecting politics into America’s base on decisions will cause unimaginable damage to our security. American soldiers and women in uniform should receive the highest quality option, not the second or fourth option. Redstone Arsenal was chosen as the preferred location following an extensive process of. The choice was later confirmed not only once, but two times with the results of Government Accountability Office and Department of Defense Inspector General investigation. It’s easy to understand: Redstone Arsenal is the ideal location to house the U.S. Space Command headquarters. The Basing process of the Air Force established this and was later confirmed. I am grateful to Chairman Rogers for his support of this investigation. Members of the House Armed Services Committee, and our service members who are awaiting an official decision on the basing process, require answers and prompt response of Air Force. Air Force.”
