Montgomery (AL) –Governor Kay Ivey announced Tuesday that she will tap Stacia Robinson as the director of Alabama’s Office of Minority Affairs. Nichelle Nix has been in this role for six years. She is now moving to the private sector where she can practice law.
Robinson is a BeneChoice Companies, LLC, which offers financial and benefits options. She is also the Colonial Life Insurance Company’s district manager. Robinson is described by the governor as a small-business champion. Robinson’s business expertise includes employee benefits design, administration, and advertising consulting.
“As we turn the page and reset the state government with January’s Inauguration, I am proud that we have assembled the strongest team to serve all Alabamians to the best of my abilities. Today, in 2022 we can look back on the important progress we made during my first term. We can also be excited about what lies ahead. Governor Ivey said that Stacia Robinson was a proud member of this effort. We are setting important and necessary goals, and Stacia will play a key role in the Alabama Office of Minority Affairs. I know that there are many good things in store for our people.
Robinson recently sold her BNI Business Network Int’l Franchise which she had owned for 25+ years. Robinson, who is also a champion of small businesses, has been active in Montgomery for many years, including on the Industrial Development Board of Montgomery and the Leadership Council of NFIB. She also serves as the Alabama Small Business Commission. Robinson was the first African American woman to be elected to the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She was the chairman of the Marketing & Promotions Task Force of the Council of Small Business Enterprises (COSBE) and won an ADDY Award for her work on the “Buy Greater Montgomery campaign.” Robinson is thrilled to share her knowledge with the Ivey Administration.
Robinson stated, “I look forward to serving the great State of Alabama in this position on behalf of women & minorities.” I hope to bring my experiences and curiosity to the role, as this Administration strives for ‘Alabama the Beautiful.’ Alabama the best for its citizens, particularly for women and minorities.
This Colorado native, a military veteran, was brought to Alabama by her military career. While spending seven years in the Air Force as a communications-computer officer, she completed her Master of Science degree in Counseling and Human Development at Troy University in Montgomery. She also received her Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia. Governor Ivey is determined to keep Alabama innovating and prepare the state’s workforce and students for tomorrow. She believes Robinson will be a valuable partner in this effort.
Nichelle Nix, the outgoing director, said, “It was an absolute honor to put the foundation for Alabama Office of Minority Affairs, and to serve the people of Alabama more than six years in that role.” I am grateful to Governor Ivey and look forward for all the great things that are yet to come from this Ivey Administration.
Robinson’s appointment takes effect January 1, before the governor’s second term. Governor Ivey will take office Monday, January 16, 2023.
