Alabama Department of Human Resources Commissioner Nancy Buckner acknowledged the collaborative efforts that resulted in the adoption success of 741 children and teens. She added, “We could not have done this without the help of our allies in the permanent adoption process, particularly adoption judges and adoptive parents, as well as the judge as well as foster parents. But, we need to be aware that the work isn’t over. There are still children who are waiting for a permanent home. Our staff and other volunteers are working hard every day to provide these children with the stability they need. Be aware that there aren’t any unwanted children, just homes that are not found.”
Despite the impressive progress the state recognizes the need for more, which is about 6,000 children and teens currently in the Alabama foster care program, with 196 who are in need of permanent homes.
