Jacksonville, AL –In an event that was characterized by pride and achievement, Jacksonville State University celebrated the commissioning ceremony of four distinguished graduates of their Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program. The fall 2023 commissioning ceremony which took place on the 14th of December at 2 pm in Houston Cole Library. Houston Cole Library, marked an important moment for newly promoted officers as they embark on their military career.

Carlie Benefield, who is one of the commissionees, is set to join the ranks of active duty within the Quartermaster’s Branch. The ceremony for commissioning serves as an acknowledgement of her commitment and dedication to service in her new the responsibility of logistical and supply chain administration in the military.

Carlos Cruz-Munoz is another student of the ROTC program is expected to join the Army National Guard. Although the exact branch is still in the process, Cruz-Munoz’s dedication to the National Guard reflects his dedication to defending and supporting communities on the national and state levels.

Jeanesia Pierce, a third commissionee, will join the Army National Guard with a concentration specifically on the Chemical branch. Pierce’s experience in chemical defense and reaction will play an important part in ensuring the security and safety in military activities.

Serenna Smoot who is the fourth and last commissionee, will contribute for her role in the Army National Guard, specializing in the Signal branch. With a specialization in information and communication systems, the role of Smoot is crucial to maintain connections and coordination in military operations.

The ceremony of commissioning not only signifies the transition of graduates from cadets to officers, but is also the start of their commitment for the country. Families, friends along with faculty members and students came together to watch the moment with pride, and show their love for newly commissioned officers who will assume positions of leadership as military officers.
