Jacksonville, AL – Jacksonville State University proudly honors one of its outstanding students, Lynne Cobb Parker, who graduated in 1973 and named a brand new nursing wing after her. The school is proud to honor Parker’s amazing transition from gospel music to being the chief executive officer of Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, Alabama.
Originating from Weaver, Alabama, Lynne Cobb Parker was able to make a name for herself in the world in gospel music. As a native of this area, she along with her father and sister, recorded several albums under the moniker “Bill Cobb Trio.” Their talents in music took them on tour with gospel music legends, making a mark on the industry of music.
But, her life was a surprise, but incredibly significant direction. She felt a strong call to minister and serve people, but via a different route that is nursing. She decided to pursue an occupation with a focus on health care.
Her commitment and dedication led her on a path of extraordinary success that eventually saw her take on the position of CEO at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, Alabama. Parker’s achievements in healthcare administration and her unflagging commitment to serve the community have been recognized.
Jacksonville State University has chosen to honor this amazing Alumna with the naming of a new nursing wing after her in JSU South. The act of recognizing her is not just a way to honor her memory but is also an encouragement for the future nurses.
