Ky’dric’s biggest problem isn’t from a fill-in the-blank defensive backs who line with him.
The veteran Jacksonville receiver’s biggest problem is within the team he plays for, and his particular position.
Fisher as well as Damonte Sinclar threw two touchdown passes each in the game. Jacksonville beat the rival Alexandria 49-21 in their first game at the newly new Golden Eagle Stadium.
Jacksonville (2-0) defeated Alexandria (0-2) in the same game for the third time in a row. This is the first time that the Golden Eagles achieved that since 2013 and the year before in. Alexandria is currently leading 53-30-4 on the record of all time series.
While Jacksonville quarterback, and Troy commitment Jim Ogle sizes up another impressive goal, Sinclair has put Fisher on the spot.
“I set a school record in the past, and now Fisher tells me he’s planning to break it again,” Fisher said. “I would like for him to.”
Fisher was a target for 17 touchdown passes, and ended up with 1,242 receiving yards in 2022. He became Ogle’s number one player. Fisher was named to the first team of all-state honors according to the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
Sinclair is slaying teams that depend to Fisher this season. It was evident as the two receivers remained in a near-statistical dead heat on Friday. Fisher was able to catch nine passes totalling 192 yards. This included scores of 34 yards as well as 82 yards. Sinclair was able to catch nine passes, resulting in the 189-yard mark, including touchdowns of 11 and 12 yards.
“Everybody is aware of Seven (Fisher’s jersey number) and how good of a player he’s,” Sinclair said. “He’s an excellent athlete, and I’m able make plays too.
“We’ve discussed it and we’ve cleared a few things up, and I’ve made some huge play.”
Ogle caught 19 of 26 passes, resulting in 5 touchdowns and 404 yards with a touchdown of 20 yards. passing at Jackson Bonner.
Ogle described Sinclair’s rise as a potential target “huge.”
“It helps take some of the burden off that player, seventh in the list,” Ogle said. “Not many players will be able to contribute like him because they’re worried about him (Sinclair) and then we’ve got Imoree (Young) who was a good player for us.
“It helps make it much simpler on me.”
Jacksonville also racked up 108 rushing yards, which included two yards of touchdown run by Xzavier English. John Ducar hit a 32-yard field goal, which helped Jacksonville gain a 31-0 advantage at halftime.
“I’m happy with the way we started out and established ourselves in the beginning and built a strong leading position,” Jacksonville coach Clint Smith stated. “That was a great game and we had the chance to play lots of youngsters towards the end.
“We did make several mistakes and then let it become slightly sloppy during the second third. No matter how big a lead or not the situation is, we need to keep performing at the same level.”
The sideline that was visiting, Alexandria suffered another difficult night just a week after dropping its opening game of the season against reigning Class 4A runners-up Cherokee County, 48-14. The loss was a result of an extremely difficult week that saw the team’s the starting the quarterback Ty Barker, among others players leave the team.
The freshman Cole Wheeler started at quarterback and was a good performer. Wheeler completed seven out of fourteen passes for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns … 37 yards for Cooper Bridges and 47 yards to Ty Brown.
“I believed Wheeler did a great job,” Alexandria coach Todd Ginn stated. “I advised everyone,”The future looks bright. We’ll improve as the year goes on.”
Brown scored a touchdown rushing as well as Elijah Hunter rushed for 108 yards.
“Jacksonville has a great squad,” Ginn said. “We saw the eighth- and ninth-graders in the secondary today and I felt they performed well. Ogle is an exceptional player who is able to really tell the weaker players, and I’m very happy to let him go.”
