Anniston, AL – On the 15th of August, on a Tuesday at 2 pm. Judy Bruckner Presents: Memories of the WWI ambulance driver at the Public Library of Anniston-Calhoun County. Judy Bruckner possesses a black bound album in leather that contains journals and photographs of an ambulance driver aged 19 identified as Charles C. Leonard, the grandfather of Judy.
Charles Leonard was a fatherless 19-year-old who “got the itch” to take part in the military within France in World War One. He realized that his poor vision would keep him from enlisting in routine military work. He decided to become an ambulance driver with the Ambulance Field Service. Learn how he enlists into the US Army to serve the French Infantry until April 1919.
It was uncommon for a soldier to carry cameras, yet Charles caught a glimpse of war that very few know about, and he shows it with the aid of cameras. Take a look at his adventures through a public event hosted by his daughter, Judy Bruckner.
Ms. Bruce’s book is available for purchase during the event.
