Jacksonville, AL –The Jacksonville Police issued an update regarding the officer-involved shooting that led to an injury to the officer earlier in the week. The suspect who was involved in a police chase and shooting by an officer on Saturday was removed after being discharged from UAB Hospital and been arrested for attempted murder as per Jacksonville Police Chief Marcus Wood.
Broderick Javon Vines, 22 of Anniston was the police’s lead on a chase of a car from Weaver to Jacksonville at around 2 a.m. the next morning, following an uninvolved traffic stop conducted at the hands of Weaver Police. Police caught up to the fleeing vehicle near the 5000 block of Alexandria-Jacksonville Highway. Vines turned his vehicle around and drove into the Jacksonville Squad car in the head before reversing to attempt a second time. The officer stepped out of his car and pulled out his gun in an attempt to stop Vines and then hit him with the vehicle. Vines returned to make another attempt but the officer shot one shot that hit Vines.
Both Vines as well as the officer were transported to RMC Anniston for treatment. officers were released few hours later, whereas Vines was admitted into UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Vines has been taken off of UAB Hospital Saturday and charged with attempted murder by the Jacksonville Police Department; he might be charged with more by The Weaver Police Department. Vines is currently detained in a $60,000 cash bail within the Calhoun County Jail. The attempted murder is an A class felony.
