Piedmont — Piedmont Coach Matt Deerman has wanted to witness a revival of Bulldog bats. This was evident in Friday’s first round playoff game in the first round of playoffs against Colbert County.

After securing Game 1 4-2 thanks to the strong pitching of Brodie Homesley as well as Jack Hayes, the Bulldogs hit nine runs while winning Game 2 12-2 after five innings.

The fourth-ranked Piedmont (22-6) was awarded the right to play a second-round playoff game with Decatur Heritage the following week.

“Survive and progress,” Piedmont coach Matt Deerman stated. “We maintained our pitching efficiently and defend well. We missed a few chances in the first game which we did not take advantage of, but did so during Game 2.

“That was the key difference.”

McClane Mohon as well as Jake Austin each had two hits in Game 2. Mohon hit a double and RBI as well as Austin hit two runs.

Cole Austin had a double with two RBIs and two runs. Kale Austin as well as Sloan Smith each had two RBIs, too.

Hayes was a shrew on the mound and pitched all five innings. He allowed just two hits one earned run, and one walk, with four strikeouts.

Hayes also won Game 1 by securing the last batter in relief.

Homesley started the game with three hits, distributing with eight strikeouts and three walks within 6 2/3 innings.

Hayes also hit a home run, doubled and scored two runs in Game 1. Kale Austin scored single and RBI.

OXFORD SWEEPSCenter Point was able to leave Oxford on Friday, bringing the same amount of hits it racked up.

Hayes Harrison and Hayden Gallahar played a flawless Game 1. Drew McCormick, Jackson Crow and Peyton Watts tag-teamed for a no-hitter in Game 2. The Yellow Jackets eliminated the Eagles 10-0 and 20-0 after 10 innings.

Oxford is ranked top of the line. Oxford (31-6) Oxford, which is ranked third in the country (31-6), will host Mountain Brook during next week’s second round of the Class 6A Series.

“Pitchers pitched strikes, players were patient at the plate and it was a excellent game,” Oxford coach Wes Brooks said.

Gallahar pitched three innings and recorded eight strikeouts of Oxford’s 11 in Game 1. Harrison hit three batters.

In Game 2 McCormick hit six batters over the course of two innings. Crow was able to strike out three batters within two innings. Watts scored two strikeouts within one innings.

Roby Brooks was the most prominent of the offensive in the game and drove in 6 runs during Game 2. The three-run home run was a highlight. inside-the-park home-run.

Sam Robertson had a triple in his hits. McCormick, Trace Adams, Eli Bozeman and Caleb Robertson all scored two hits. McCormick scored three runs. Oxford had two RBIs by Sam Robertson and Adams.

In Game 1 Carter Johnson homered and had two RBIs. McCormick along with Watts each scored three hits, and Watts also hit an RBI double.

DONOHO SPILLS:Lucas Elliott went 3-for-3 and scored two runs as did Blake Sewell went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run RBI as he pitched a full game. third-ranked Donoho defeated Sulligent 4-3 in the game on Friday 1 of their playoff series in Class 2A.

Sulligent changed the game in Game 2 winning 7-2. Game 3 will be played on Saturday on the 14th of July at 2:00 p.m. in Donoho.

“Good matchup,” Donoho coach Steve Gendron said. “They played with a vengeance during each game and we’ll need to be able to replicate that today. We must follow suit.”

Donoho’s Nic Thompson hit 1-for-2 and scored a a hit in Game 1 and surpassed 100 hits in his career.

MUNFORD SPLITSRiley Brown pitched two-hitter when the eighth-ranked Munford defeated UMS Wright 2-0 in Game 1 of their Class 4A playoff series in Munford however, the sixth-ranked UMS Wright won Game 2 with a 6-2.

Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

Brown hit four batters, and walked three over seven innings.

Mason Brewer hit a solo home run in his two hits. B.J. Anderson was 2-for-3 and had an RBI.

“We did extremely well in the first match,” Munford coach Derek Stephens stated. “We were very efficient in hitting, pitched well, and played a good defense. That’s exactly the essence of what UMS Wright is. They’ll perform well in all different phases. They also play small balls when they are required to. We played in the game again and committed three mistakes in one innings. They had the advantage of three runs. The game was tied prior to the game ended. …

“Overall we fought toe-to-toe against their team for fourteen innings. We asked our players to do.”

Four eliminated:Jacksonville was beaten in both games of its Class 4A first-round game against West Limestone, 4-1 and 4-1 on Friday.

In class 2A, Ranbune fell to Bayshore Christian 10-0 and 14-0.

The Class 1A team lost to Spring Garden fell to Sumiton Christian 5-4 and 10-5 In Class 1A, Ragland lost Game 3 to Hackleburg 12-11. Ragland was defeated in Game 3 by Hackleburg 12-11.

In Thursday’s 4A action on Thursday, Bayside Academy swept Handley, and Brooks beat Cleburne County. Phil Campbell swept Weaver in 3A.


JASPER-ALEXANDRIA

Second Game:Alexandria wins over Jasper 13-5 to complete the sweep. will play in the second round next week in Arab.

Game 1: Alexandria wins 3-0. Andrew Allen pitches four-hit shutout in 96 pitches. Game 2 will follow.


CCENTER POINT-OXFORD

Second Game:Oxford wins 20-0, will host Mountain Brook in the coming week most likely on Thursday. McCormick, Crow and Watts all pitch no-hitters, which means Oxford did not allow one hit during the 10-inning game.

First game:Oxford beats Oxford 10-0. Hayes Harrison and Hayden Gallahar play a perfect game.


WEST LIMESTONE-JACKSONVILLE

Second game:Jacksonville loses 4-1 and is eliminated.

Game 1.West Limestone prevails 4-1. Game 2 is to follow.


SULLIGENT-DONOHO

Game 2Sulligent win Game 2 by 7-2 and make the game 3 on Saturday at 2 p.m.

First Game:Donoho win 4-3. Complete victory for Blake Sewell. Game 2 is to be played.


COUNTY OF COLBERT-PIEDMONT

Second game:Piedmont beats the Bulldogs 12-2, to make it to the second round. will face Decatur Heritage on the road next week. Game 1 is likely to be played on to start on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

First game: Piedmont beats the other team 4-2. Game 2 is to follow.


UMS WRIGHT-MUNFORD

Game 2 UMS Wright beats UMS Wright 6-1. Game 3 is Saturday, 1 p.m.
