Ohatchee, AL – On the 27th of December 2023, at around 2 am The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was alerted of a possible victim killed on the 900 block Pope Rd. in Ohatchee. Deputies responded and upon arrival, they found a man with a wound from an assault weapon in the chest. The deputies offered first aid until the arrival of medical personnel and assisted the victim in preparation for transportation up to UAB by ambulance.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the victim who was shot located on the property of the homeowner, which is located on Peeks Hill Road. in Ohatchee and was with an unknown male, and they were trying to remove objects from the vehicle. The homeowner left his home and walked up to the offenders. In the course of the encounter, the homeowner fired his gun at the inmates, striking the second. The person who sustained shooting wounds left the scene and returned to his home in Pope Rd and requested medical assistance.
The Sheriff’s Office has advised there are no charges as of this point since the investigation is in progress. It is expected that two males who were involved in the attempted and trespassing theft will be prosecuted. The shooting may be reported before a grand jury at a later dates. The victim of the shooting was treated and released from UAB the following day.
