Oxford, AL –In an interview in The Calhoun Journal, Judge Advocate, Preston Hall, a retired Army Veteran sheds an understanding of the new vision for Oxford American Legion Post 111. Post 111’s mission is expanding its membership by attracting members who have a commitment in community work, specifically focused on helping transitioning veterans discover their purpose through involvement in the community. In the list of initiatives that the Oxford Post is among, the Oxford Post is excited to announce the reopening of their doors and the opening of a variety of community-based opportunities. One program that stands out includes that of the High School Oratorical Scholarship, which provides substantial financial aid to the winners. The top three national contest winners will receive scholarships worth $25,000, $22,500 and $20,000.
To be considered for the oratorical competition, contestants have to have U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents who are less than 20 years old and currently enrolled in an elementary or high school high school. The oration they write must be focused on one particular aspect in the U.S. Constitution, emphasizing citizens’ rights and obligations.
