Oxford, AL – In an important move that aims to increase student nutrition and easing financial burdens on parents, Oxford City Schools announced the introduction in free food for pupils that will begin today. This is made possible by the Community Eligibility Program (CEP).

Cheyenne Mattox, the Child Nutrition Program Director, expressed her enthusiasm for the program. She said, “The CEP program allows us to provide healthy balanced and balanced meals to each pupil for free. We believe this will benefit families and students in a variety ways, including alleviating financial burdens and decreasing time to prepare meals.”

As part of the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program, Oxford City Schools will be participating in CEP throughout the rest in the academic year. This is a crucial part of the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 allows schools as well as school districts located in poorer areas to stop school meals, and offer meals and breakfast at no cost to all students enrolled in the school.

Mattox explainedthat “In the implementation of programs for feeding children No child will be treated differently because of race, gender color or the nationality or impairment.” Guardians and parents aren’t required to take additional action, since the USDA provisions ensure that children are able to participate in school meals without having to pay any fees or making application forms.

The CEP program not only frees parents of the financial burden but also simplifies the process to allow students access to nutritious meals. Food service professionals get more time to concentrate on making healthy meals and, by removing meal application and reducing time spent waiting in line for lunch.

Mattox discussed the larger impacts of the program stating, “We’re excited for the changes to the Child Nutrition Program – we began serving new menu items in the start of school and now children can take advantage of these meals at no charge to the families of their children.”

Breakfast and lunch are free. meals are offered to all students. The program begins on the 8th of January, Monday and running through the remainder during the academic year. Parents and guardians must be aware that the a la carte options like chips, cookies, flavor drinks and so on. These items are not part of the program and need to be paid separately if they are selected by students.
