Oxford, AL –The Parkinson’s Foundation Gulf Coast Chapter is preparing to hold their 3rd Annual Moving Day Northeast Alabama Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Walk which is scheduled to be held on Saturday November 4, 2023 from 9 am until 11 am. This fun and free event will take place on Oxford Civic Center. Oxford Civic Center, located at the address 401 McCullars Lane, Oxford, AL 36203. The attendees can anticipate an exciting morning of activities as well as information and opportunities to donate to an important cause.

The festival promises a variety of opportunities for participants to participate. Participants can sign up for raffle prizes, browse options from vendors, gain insight on the resources for Parkinson’s disease that are available within Northeast Alabama, and visit the children’s zone which is where even children are able to be part of this vital cause.

The most heartfelt and meaningful moment during the event is”We Move,” a poignant and heartfelt “We move” ceremony. This is a moment to reflect, since it allows participants to acknowledge those suffering from Parkinson’s disease and remember those who lost their battle against the disease, and pay tribute to caregivers who devote their lives to helping people who suffer from Parkinson’s. “We Move” underscores the importance of bringing awareness to the wide-ranging effect of Parkinson’s disease, highlighting that it affects anyone at any point in their life. This solemn and unifying celebration will serve as a reminder for the ongoing fight against Parkinson’s Disease.

The main event of the day will be the mile-long hike through Oxford Lake. The walk, which is symbolic, is not just a display of solidarity, but it also shows the determination of people who are who are affected by Parkinson’s disease and their family members to move forward, no matter what obstacles they confront.

In addition to its function of raising consciousness, this event functions as a fundraising event to support and the Parkinson’s Foundation Gulf Coast Chapter. The money raised through Moving Day will be directed towards advancing research and improving care, and supporting educational programs aimed at improving the quality of life for people who suffer from the disease of Parkinson’s (PD) or their family members living in the Gulf Coast Region. It is worth noting that since the year 2011, Moving Day events nationwide have collected around $40 million. This has contributed significantly to the Parkinson’s foundation’s goal of improving the quality of life for those suffering from PD.

The previous Moving Day Northeast Alabama event witnessed the community come together to raise a staggering $30,000. This is a significant amount for the cause. This year The Parkinson’s Foundation Gulf Coast Chapter hopes to exceed that feat and have a more impactful contributions to fighting Parkinson’s Disease.
