Piedmont, AL –In an incident that was gruesome on the 28th of September 2023 the Piedmont man identified as 36-year-old Spencer Lerone Dudley, found himself in the midst of serious charges for reckless endangerment and felony attempt to escape law enforcement authorities. It was a speedy chase that went over 100 miles per hour at which point Dudley was driving with a seven-year-old in his car.
According to Piedmont Police Chief Nathan Johnson The events that led to the arrest of Dudley began with a grey Dodge Charger was observed driving at a risky rate of speed along US Hwy 278 by a alert Piedmont Police Officer. Believing that safety was a concern for the public the officer ordered a traffic stop to address the high speed. The vehicle, however, refused to obey, instead opting to avoid police by accelerating even more.
What followed was a tense chase in a vehicle which reached speeds as high as 100 miles an hour several locations throughout the course. The pursuit was characterized by a number of serious traffic violations, such as driving through no-passing zones, putting not just Dudley’s life but also the lives of two other passengers, one of whom was a child as well as the lives of motorists at risk.
Police continued to track the vehicle until it was disappeared from view along Old Gnatville Rd. However, their ferocious efforts paid off when they found the vehicle in the residence at the end of Old Gnatville Rd. When they approached the vehicle, they spotted Spencer Lerone Dudley hiding behind the propane tank.
Dudley freely admitted to being responsible for driving the car and admitted that two other people as young as a seven-year-old who was with him in the erratic chase.
In reaction to his actions Dudley was quickly taken into custody and accused of Felony attempt to evade and Reckless Endangerment. There were two charges of the latter. In addition, he was issued multiple traffic citations in connection with his reckless driving. In the end, Dudley was transported to the Calhoun County Jail on September 29, 2023. His the bond amount set at $42,000.
Chief Johnson said there was a large number of complaints about Dudley’s actions, and law enforcement officials acted quickly to resolve the issue. This incident highlights the critical importance of law enforcement authorities in protecting the public and holding people accountable for their actions that put at risk themselves as well as the public at large.
