Rep. Mike Rogers, of Alabama. provided a concise GOP reaction to President Biden’s response to the Chinese spy balloon that strayed across into the United States this weekend, praise the work of the military and asking questions to Biden and the White House on why they were so slow to act.
Rogers who is chairman of Rogers, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, claims that the Biden administration “hoped to conceal” the balloon’s existence from Americans while it traveled between across the West Coast to the East Coast. The lawmaker attacked Biden in a scathing way for having allowed the balloon to cross the nation before shooting it down, posing questions about the knowledge the craft could have acquired.
“I thank our soldiers for their accomplishments in completing a mission to stop the spy balloon launched by China’s Chinese Communist Party,” Rogers stated in a press release. “I am deeply disturbed by that Biden Administration’s decision permit the spy balloon to travel across all of the United States.”
“The Biden administration reportedly learned about the CCP spy balloon on January 28, about a week prior to when people in Montana noticed the balloon soaring in their area. It’s evident that the Biden administration wanted to conceal the security breach from Congress as well as the American citizens. Now they must reveal the White House must provide answers on the reason they chose to let the CCP satellite to travel across into the United States and what damage to our security has resulted due to this decision. It is imperative that the United States must project strength to stop China and this is yet another sign of weakness from this administration. Biden Administration,” said Biden.
The White House has yet to respond to Republican critics in Congress which could initiate an investigation into the incident at the House.
Rogers’ announcement comes after China was furious at the loss of its balloon on Saturday. In the U.S. is currently recovering the wreckage of the balloon for examination.
“China strongly opposes and is protesting against U.S. attack on a civilian, unmanned airship with force,” China’s Foreign Ministry stated. “The Chinese side has, after verification, repeatedly informed U.S. side of the civilian nature of the aircraft and stated that its entry into U.S. due to force majore was completely unexpected.”
“The Chinese side has clearly demanded to the U.S. side to properly deal with the issue in a professional, calm and controlled approach,” it added. “The spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Defense has also stated that the balloon doesn’t constitute a physical or military threat to the people who are on the ground.”
Biden demanded for the ballon to be dropped when the balloon was in safe condition on Wednesday. Military officials stayed off the shoot until the craft was in open water in order to avoid any collateral harm. However, in doing so the administration permitted the balloon to travel across the entire continent of United States.
“After an extensive study, U.S. military commanders were of the opinion that the decision to down the balloon as it flew in the air posed a risk of danger to the population across the entire country due to the size and height of the balloon, as well as its payload of surveillance,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin declared in an official statement.
“In conformity with President’s instructions in accordance with President’s directives, the Department of Defense developed options to dismantle the balloon in a safe manner in our territorial waters and closely monitoring its course and the activities of intelligence collection.”
