Anniston (AL) – RMC Health System asks the community to donate blood as blood shortage continues, Blood Donors Required

Alabama and the nation are still in dire need of blood donors. The need for blood donors has only increased with the recent severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding. RMC Health System is already at critical levels for type O blood, and is nearing critical levels for all other types. We are experiencing an increase in blood use for patient care. LifeSouth is the only blood provider for RMC. We encourage donors to donate right away.

All blood types are required in order to ensure that hospitals have enough blood to provide blood transfusions for patients, trauma cases and surgical procedures. It is easy, safe and takes only about an hour.

Every blood donor receives a thank-you gift, refreshments, and a mini-physical that includes temperature, blood pressure, and cholesterol. Lifesouth.org can help you locate a donor center or blood drive near you. Online appointments are also possible.

How to donate:

Visit a LifeSouth bloodmobile or donor center. Visit lifesouth.org to find a location near your area or call 888-795-2707. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good physical health, and be at least 17 years of age. Photo ID. A photo I.D.
