Washington D.C. –U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) is the top senator on the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has released a statement today in response to the seizure by force of Vulcan Materials ‘ port facility in Punta Venado, Quintana Roo, Mexico, by Mexican military forces.
Around 5:45 am, local time the 14th of March, video footage shows the building being smashed and taken away at gunpoint Mexican police and military forces. An Mexican Federal District Court in March 16 ordered the governmental authorities to leave the property within 24 hours. However, the property is still under military control until 7:30 pm Eastern Standard Time the 19th of March.
“This forceful confiscation from private properties is illegitimate and unjust. It’s a shame that the Mexican president would prefer to be able to confiscate American assets over the Fentanyl that kills hundreds of Americans each daily,” said Senator Katie Britt. “Mexico ought to be more focused pursuing cartels rather than law-abiding businesses and hardworking citizens. President Biden should raise this issue directly with the president Lopez Obrador and assure the American citizens that this won’t be allowed to continue. The consequences of this illegal capture extend to the United States, significantly hamstringing vital American infrastructure energy, as well as other construction projects which depend on Vulcan’s operations within Mexico to source materials. The office of my boss and myself will be monitoring this issue and ensure that it does not get swept under the carpet. .”
Senator Britt in February travelled to Mexico City and discussed the issue of the increasing illegal , aggression of the Mexican government toward Vulcan and Vulcan with Mexican secretary of foreign affairs Marcelo Ebrard. Senator Britt has also discussed the issue with the top U.S. Embassy personnel in Mexico City. Vulcan is located at Birmingham, Alabama.
