Inspiring by Jorda Crook and her dominance at the pole vault. Ohatchee’s men as well as girls are first in the class of 3A following the first day of the state track meet.

White Plains’ girls lead all teams from the area in the 4A-7A event in Gulf Shores, standing in third spot on the podium in 4A following two days in the 3-day meet.

Both meets end on Saturday.

Ohatchee’s boys are 30.5 points, which is a bit behind second place Vinemont (30) as well as third-place Trinity Presbyterian (25). Ohatchee’s girls score 33 points and Houston Academy (27) is second.

White Plains’ girls have 28 points, 20.5 off the pace set by the first-place Bayside Academy.

Donoho’s girls lead in 1A, scoring 20 points, which is 36 more than Marion County, and Faith Christian boys are in third place with 27 points, which is behind Marion County (42.5) and Addison (38).

Chris Ferguson led Ohatchee’s boys by winning his fourth state outdoor championship at pole vault. He vaulted 13 feet, 6 inches. He was responsible for 10 of Ohatchee’s scores.

Co-teammate Ethan Wiggins (9-06) finished third with five points while Colby Hester (9-06) took fifth with four points.

The Indians also earned eleven points on discus. Luke Vinson (118-01) finished third, while Tyler Waters (114-07) was fourth.

For the girls of Ohatchee, Crook returned to her state javelin title by completing throwing 129-03, and also won gold in high jump at 5-04. In addition, she finished second at shot put (35-07) as well, and she ended the day with a score of 28 points.

Mia Waters added five points by finishing fourth on the javelin (99-02).

In 4A Distance running Maddyn Conn was the big scoring player in the 4A race for White Plains’ girls with first-place times in the 1,600-meter race (5:10.16) in addition to 3,200 (11:23.89). She scored 20 points.

For the girls of Donoho the jumper Estella Connell has the ability to fly, and did so, winning first place in the high jump (5-02) in the long jump (5-02) and second place in the long leap (15-01.75) with 16 points. Rory Parks took fifth in the pole vault (7-0) with four points.

Faith Christian’s team scored an award-winning performance in the 400 from Brady Whitworth in the 400 (51.53) and then he added an extra point to his eighth-place third on the triple jump. Carson Limbaugh took third (5:01.53) in the 1,600.

The relay team of 4×800 earned 10 points for the first place finish (9:06.37).

Highlights from other teams in the area that have been able to score at state track:

Alexandria, Class 5A

The girls scored 2.5 points each from Anna Beth Stewart, who placed in sixth place (4-10) in the high jump.

Anniston Class 4A, Anniston

Anniston’s state champions, the defending boys have been placed eighth, scoring 13 points. Keddrick Jordan was eighth with the second place finish (51.18) at the track 400. Javen Croft was the fifth spot (6-00) for the jump in high jumping to earn four points.

The girls earned four points for Liberty Lewis’ fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:01.34).

Donoho, Class 1A

The boys 4×800 relay team came in seventh (9:34.55) as did Riley Goodson took seventh (5:12.61) in the 1,600 race for two points each. Ethan Crawford was eighth (55.12) in the 400 to earn one point.

Glencoe Class 3A, Glencoe

Katie Giles took fourth (5:30.60) in the 1,600 to earn five points.

Handley Class 3A

DevontaeHiggins placed 4th (6-02) for the long jump, accounting for the Tigers five points.

Lincoln Class 5A

Elijah Carter took fourth (44-00) in the triple jump to earn five points.

Munford Class 4A Munford

The boys sit in sixth place, scoring 17 points. Distance-running athlete Dakota Frank accounted for 14 and finished third (9:40.23) for the 3,200, and third for the 1,600 (4:22.30).

Oxford Class 6A

Oxford’s boys rank sixth place with 16 points. Noah George, the two-time Calhoun County cross country champion who took home two of the three distance races at the track meet for the county was credited with seven points. He placed the fourth position (9:35.66) in the 1,600 and 6th place in the race of 1,600 (4:25.71). Darrell Gooden added six points by finishing third (167-09) in the javelin.

Distance-running Katie Keur, the Calhoun County cross-country champion who won all distance races at the county track meet was fifth place in the 3,200 (11:02.03) and sixth place in the 1,600 (5:05.74) which accounted for seven of the nine points. Gabrielle Lindsey took seventh (108-06) in the javelin, scoring two points.

Piedmont 3A, Class 3A

Ishmael Bethel came in second place at the triple leap (43-05.5) with eight points. The boys 4×800 relay team finished fifth (8:49.48) with four points. Claudia Dempsey took seventh (1:04.02) in the 400, scoring two points.

Pleasant Valley, Class 2A

Ella Parris took third (1:02.45) in the 400 to earn six points. Victoria Turner was fourth (31-07) in shot put with five points. The boys 4×800 relay team came in the sixth spot (9:21.50) four points.

Saks, Class 3A

Marrio Curry placed the eighth (53.17) during the 400 to earn one point.

Wadley Class 1A

Frisco Robertson finished 5th (54.36) at the 400-meter race for four points. A’Mya Brown was the top female athlete with a third place finish (94-04) on discus to earn six points.

Weaver Class 3A

Layla Carter was fifth (14-09.75) in the long jump and scored four points.

Wellborn Class 3A

Grayson Johnson took seventh (132-02) in the javelin to earn two points.

White Plains, Class 4A

The team scored all eight points due to Brandon Hahm’s third place result (138-00) at discus, and a seventh-place performance (43-10.5) for shot put.
