McCalla — Nick Richardson made a habit of hitting base to play leadoff for Oxford’s state champions baseball team in spring. He also was a regular visitor into the end zone on the day of his game.

Richardson as well as QB Mason Mims connected on three touchdown passes in Oxford’s 33-23 victory over McAdory in the opener of the season on Friday. both teams.

The win is avenging Oxford’s loss of 35-21 to McAdory the same time one year ago, at Lamar Field.

Richardson’s catch-and-run touchdown of 74 yards placed Oxford ahead by 30 points at 9:31 in the fourth quarter after McAdory came back from a gap of 23-10 to make it a tie.

Mims 5 yards touchdown towards Richardson put Oxford ahead by 23-10 when Oxford transformed an intercept into points.

Richardson’s catch and run touchdown put on the Yellow Jackets up 10-3 at 11:34 of the second half.

Oxford also scored a touchdown by Jaydon Thomas. He also stopped an additional point.

RANBURNE 31, White Plains 28, Kaide Garrett ran for 4 touchdowns and 107 yards as Raburne took an advantage of 17-7 at halftime and fought against White Plains.

He also completed the ball on 10 out of 15 occasions, which totalled the 138 yards.

Ty Bowling had two catches for 57 yards. Logan Crook caught three passes for 38 yards.

Jacob Alewine led Ranburne’s defense with 10 tackles. Nate Merrill and Bowling had five tackes each which included Merrill making the recovery of a fumble along with Bowling one interception.

White Plains took a 7-0 advantage after Dylan Barksdale’s 11-yard throw towards Phileepae Holloway, but Ranburne scored 17 more points following Garrett scoring runs that ranged between just five and six yards, and Brylee Cash’s 37 yard field shot.

Crew Martin hit a 25-yard touchdown pass to Holloway to pull the Wildcats to within 17-14, but Garrett responded with a one-yard touchdown run.

Holloway’s six-yard touchdown run reduced the score to 24-21 but Garrett’s two-yard run helped open an advantage of 31-21 in the fourth quarter.

Barksdale’s touchdown throw of 66 yards to Holloway gave the final margin.

Barksdale completed passes for 2 scores and 119 yards and ran to 97 yards. Holloway was able to catch three passes, resulting in three touchdowns and 102 yards and ran to 16 yards.

CHEROKEE County 48 ALEXANDRIA 14:Jacob Cornejo ran with two scores and 150 yards in addition, Cherokee County scored its first victory against Alexandria since 2013.

The champions of Class 4A runner-up Warriors built an impressive lead of 48-0 to their most impressive win in terms of margins against Alexandria in 42 games. They Valley Cubs still hold a total series advantage of 28-14 which dates back to 1925.

Monqrea, the eighth grade backup quarterback, Morris Jr. scored Alexandria on the scoreboard by running for one yard and 10 yards of distance.

There are just a few minutes left. Running back junior backup Aiden Christopher added an 8-yard touchdown run with 3 minutes 15 seconds left to score the game’s last touchdown.

Christopher was the leading player in Alexandria with 56 yards and nine carries, and scored.

Weaver 40, DoNOHO 13Kaden Gooden’s game featured an extra kickoff return that resulted in an interception, and Weaver established a lead of 40-0 in the process of reversing the loss they suffered last season to Donoho. The win was the Bearcats their first win in their season opener since defeating Cleburne County 49-35 to open the 2018 campaign.

Weaver also took home the award in his first year as coach Ken Cofer’s first year as head coach.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 48 TUSCALOOSA 32:Noah Lee completed 16 of 21 passes to score five touchdowns and 270 yards. He also scored a touchdown rushing as JCA increased to 3-1.

Travis Barnhill caught five passes for 3 touchdowns and 126 yards and ran for 149 yards and one touchdown. Barnhill also racked up 13 tackles.

Jesse Gannaway caught eight passes for 2 touchdowns and 141 yards.

Caleb Stallings rushed for 73 yards.

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 42 ST. JOHN PAUL II 27:Greyson Carroll completed 5 of 10 passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns. She also ran for 177 yards and two scores in the game. Westbrook Christian won in Steve Smith’s first game as the Warriors the head coach.

Drew Whitmore rushed for 77 yards and scored a touchdown, as did Lamycal Mitchell, who had 63 yards in three plays. Cooper Greer caught three passes for 104 yards, and three touchdowns.

Jamborees

14 PIEDMONT FYFFE 14:At Fyffe, Piedmont’s Cole Wilson threw touchdown passes of 70 yards to Ishmael Bethel and 15 yards to Rollie Pinto.

Piedmont made the ball on five occasions to gain up to 149 yards with two touchdowns. He also the rushing attack was 43 yards.

Fyffe ran for 195 out of its 256 yard. He also scored two touchdowns.

AFFORDABLE VALLEY DROPPS TWO:The Raiders played in an all-team jamboree in Collinsville and lost 7-6 against Collinsville while they won 7-0 at Hokes Bluff. Both games lasted for about a half.

Quarterback Braxton Salster scored Pleasant Valley’s touchdown against Collinsville which was set up by Holt Bentley’s 60-yard jog.
