Anniston, AL – A significant move towards the establishment of Anniston as an ecotourism destination of the highest quality location in the Southern United States, the city of Anniston proudly announces the acceptance of an Federal transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Grant for the fiscal year 2024, which totals $597,520.00. Governor Kay Ivey’s portion of the grant will be used to fund critical improvements at Anniston’s Michael Tucker Park Trailhead, an initiative that aims to provide an enjoyable experience for tourists and trail lovers as well as establishing a crucial connection to Anniston’s coveted Ladiga Trail. The Anniston’s Michael Tucker Park, which is currently the southern end of the Chief Ladiga Trail is home to an enviable spot in the heart of residents and visitors. It was named after the honor of Dr. Michael Tucker, a well-known Anniston doctor and frequent cyclist. In a charming pecan tree, the park provides not just a trailhead, but it also has a gazebo, a drink fountain, primitive 16-site campground, as well as restroom facilities.
