Calhoun County, AL Calhoun County, Alabama Faith Christian boys take home sectional tennis championship; Jacksonville, Oxford, Piedmont, White Plain win in softball; Donoho, Ohatchee and Ragland take home baseball titles
Faith Christian’s boys took home the Section 3 of Class 1A-3A tennis tournament on Tuesday, beating 2nd place Alabama School of Cyber Technology 45-40. Whitesburg Christian Academy scored 32 points. Faith’s Eli Mitchell and Josh Goode together to take the No. 1 doubles title, beating Decatur Heritage’s duo 6-0, 6-2. The other bracket champions for Faith included Joshua Muse and Aidan Elliott at No. 3-doubles. Josh Goode at No. 2 singles, and Aidan Elliott at No. 6 singles. Faith will be heading to Mobile for the state championship on April 24-25. This report will be updated as more of the results of the day are announced.
Class 6A, Section 3.At Pell City, the Oxford boys made it to state by finishing at Pell City. Oxford wins included Kye McEwen, who was the No. 1 singles, and Parth Patel in the No. 3 singles. Third place went to Jackson Randall in No. 2 singles, Om Patel in No. 4 singles. Noah Brothers in No. five singles. Lucas Somers in No. six singles McEwen-P.Patel at No. one doubles Randall-O.Patel playing No. 2 doubles, and Brothers Payton Butterworth in No. 3 doubles.
Softball
Pleasant Valley 8, ALEXANDRIA 7. Macey Roper doubled, scoring on Rebekah Gannaway’s hit to give Pleasant Valley (13-10) an early lead during the bottom of the sixth in the sixth. The run that gave the lead came following the Raiders five-run fifth inning which included Lily Henry’s RBI double, Madyson Cromer’s RBI single as well as Sydney Beason’s run scoring sacrifice fly, and Haylie Lee’s RBI single. Alexandria (20-16) added five scores in the fourth inning’s bottom including Lauren Weber’s RBI single, Briley Bright’s run-scoring grounder and Jill’s two-run triple. Cockrell scored due to a throw-in mistake. Alexandria scored hits by Allyssa Hunt as well as Charlee Parris, among 12 hits. Brenlee Sparks Clancy Bright, Hunt, Weber and Cockrell each had a hit. Weber went 3-for-3.
7-7 CLAY-CHALKVILLE 1Raina Zachery as well as Kaelyn Crossley came together to hold Clay-Chalkville at three hits, with eight strikeouts, as Oxford increased its record to 21-6. Adajiah Wilson hit 2-for-3 and had an RBI triple and a triple and Kenlee Rodgers scored two runs. Berkley Mooney hit a double and scored a run.
20 PIEDMONT WELLBORN 4.Sarah Goss as well as Savannah Smith each scored 4 RBIs and 4 hits as Piedmont increased to 27-10. Goss was 4-for-5 and had three hits, a home run 4 runs and 4 RBIs. Smith was 4-for-5, with an RBI, a home run with two doubles, four RBIs, and two runs. The Bulldogs had several other impressive performance at the plate: Cacey Brothers, 2-for-3 triple RBI, RBI; Cayla Brothers 2-for-3 running; Armoni Perry, 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs Ava Pope, 2-for-3 double with three runs Abby Baird, 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs Jaycee Glover was 2-for-2 double, one run 1 RBI; Amarae Champion, 1 for 1, run, two RBIs And Jenna Calvert, 1-for-3, double. Piedmont recorded 21 hits.
Carson Young pitched four innings giving up six hits and no walks, with just one strikeout. The team of Wellborn, Jaylyn Chattin was 2-for-3 and had a double as well as two RBIs. Cassidy Gray went 1-for-3 with a double 2 runs, an RBI as well. Autumn Parsons was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double.
White Plains 1. MUNFORD 0.Leighton Arnold pitched a spread of six hits and hit 14 batters in addition, White Plains made the most of its two hits, improving to 20-11. Kylee Provencio hit two hits and scored the game’s only run in the fifth inning. Cassidy Arnold went 1-for-2 with one run. Munford’s Khloe Shears pitched a 2-hitter that had eight strikeouts. Kastin Lathem hit 2-for-3. Chloe Prickette and Blair Darby each scored a double to the Lions.
JACKSONVILLE 16-10, Anniston 1-0-0:Carli Fritts threw a one-hitter and no-hitter, striking out 11 batters over seven innings, as her team the Golden Eagles improved to 10-14. She struck out 60 batters in 72 pitches. Jacksonville was awash with talent in the first inning: Alexis Phillips 3-for-4, three RBIs, three runs Je’hennaengram 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs Sara Kate Adams 3-for-3 Double 4 runs RBI; Keeli Leach 3-for-4 double four runs, and 2 RBIs Dailyn Wood 1for4, 4 runs RBI four runs, RBI; Libby Strain 2-for-4 4 run, RBI.
HOKES BLUFF 9 OHATCHEE 5.Alyssa Davis hit two times and had 2 RBIs in her game for Ohatchee. Whitney McFry and Mackenzie Luna each scored a double as did Luna was 3-for-3 overall and had an RBI. Ohatchee is currently 15-14.
Baseball
DONOHO 4, SPRING GARDEN 0.Blake Sewell Peyton Webb and Hayes Farrell all pitched an inning of one-hitting as Donoho increased to 19-2. Sewell and Webb pitched two hitter-free innings each, while Farrell permitted one hit in three innings. They had nine strikeouts. Sewell also hit 3-for-2 and had a run and double, while Lucas Elliott was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a double. Marcus Lawler had a single and an RBI.
OOHATCHEE 7, SAKS 3.On the night of senior nights on senior night for Devin Howell, Bryce Noah and Jake Roberts, all three played a role in winning as the Indians ended their season with a record of 10-10. Noah hit 1-for-2 and scored one run. Howell was 2-for-3, scoring two RBIs and a hit. Roberts scored an RBI and earned the win after pitching five innings, giving up five hits and eight strikeouts. Will Folsom came on with runners on third and second and with no forearms during the 6th inning and hit the side. He also recorded two striking outs during the seventh. In the seventh for Saks, Mason Jairrels went 2-for-3 and had an RBI and Jacori Avery went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
RAGLAND 12 VICTORY CHRISTIANS 10: Casey Phillips walked it off by hitting a two-run homer in the seventh inning. Ragland went 13-8. Phillips also scored an RBI double and a triple during the game. Skyler Barber was 2-for-4 and had two runs, a double and RBI and Jabari Thomas hit 1-for-2, which included two runs, a double and RBI. Brayden Byars was 2-for-5 and had the run.
