Calhoun County (AL) –A two-vehicle collision that occurred at 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, claimed the lives of two people, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Karen R. Tatum (60), of Anniston was seriously injured when her 2001 Toyota Avalon was hit by Taran Seymour’s 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe. Both vehicles were thrown off the road and hit a tree after the collision. Tatum was taken to Regional Medical Center Anniston where she succumbed to her injuries. At the accident scene, the passenger in the Toyota, Karen J. Pope (36), was declared dead. Seymour was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. The accident occurred on Choccolocco in Calhoun County, about eleven miles east from Anniston. There is no further information as Troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA Highway Patrol Division) continue to investigate.
