In the first quarter, Jacksonville gave up on one of the top teams in the state. The Golden Eagles looked set to keep Plainview off of the scoreboard for the majority of the quarter, and then win a small victory. Plainview’s Lauren Jimmerson scored a 3-pointer to beat the buzzer. It was from the’s” in Golden Eagles, on the other side of the floor. Jacksonville coach Corey Mize noted that “they went Plainview.”
Jimmerson’s 3-ball was the jumping point for the No. 3 3A Lady Bears scored 28 points in the first quarter, and then hit 13 more 3s to win 68-24. Mize stated, “This is a great ball team that I have.” Mize said, “We have a lot of girls that can play the game. They just need to be taught confidence. That’s what I have been doing with them since the weekend leading up to the game. I said, “Y’all can play alongside any team when they play their best.”
“They were confident and played their best game. We didn’t do any extra. We didn’t do anything extra. Then everyone scored a 3. The Lady Bears made 15 3s during the game and 13 in the last three quarters. Jimmerson hit four of her 12 points, while Sawyer Kate Hulgan hit three.
Mize stated, “It was like an apron.” We know they are a great shooting team. After a great quarter, they scored a 3 to win the quarter. We set small goals to win each quarter, and that was the dagger to lose that quarter like that.” Ashley Grant’s absence is still affecting the Golden Eagles offense. Mize hopes that his top scorer will be back in time to play in the tournament. [read more…]
