Piedmont, AL –In an incredibly tragic incident in Piedmont, AL, police from the Piedmont Police Department, Fire, and Rescue quickly attended to a fatal vehicle accident at the intersection AL Hwy 21 as well as Jug Hollow Rd today at 1:50 pm. The crash involved two vehicles one of which was one in 2014, a Nissan Murano and a 2022 Mercedes GLC 300, both of which smashed into each other head-on.
Driver of 2014’s Nissan Murano was identified as Claude William Heard, a resident of 78 years old in Piedmont. Tragically the driver, Mr. Heard was pronounced deceased on the spot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Piedmont Rescue Squad and emergency personnel were able to effectively manage the situation and offer immediate assistance.
The 2022 Mercedes GLC 300 sustained injuries during the crash and were swiftly taken to The Piedmont Rescue Squad for necessary medical attention. The extent of their injuries remains not known.
The Piedmont Police Department, in conjunction with ALEA State Troopers, is currently investigating the circumstances of the incident. At present there are no additional details that have been released on the reason for the crash.
The community is asked to be patient while police officials attempt to collect evidence and establish the events that led up this tragic event. It is believed that the Piedmont Police Department has assured that the public that they will provide updates as they be made available as the investigation continues.
According to Piedmont chief Nathan Johnson he expressed their condolences for the victim of the tragedy and his Heard family. We also would like to wish the injured victims an immediate and speedy recovery.
