After trying for four seasons to bring the White Plains football team to the next level, and having some success, Chandler Tyree suddenly resigned Tuesday morning. He stated that he wanted to spend more time with his family. After meeting with Andy Ward, White Plains principal, Tyree announced his resignation via social media. He informed his players Tuesday morning instead of waiting until the end.
Tyree stated, “It’s something that I’ve been praying for since football season ended with just trying to kinda press forward.” “I feel that personally, this is the best decision I have made. “I don’t have any other opportunities right now. Being a father and being with my family is more important to me than being a head coach. It was the best decision for me and this program.
Tyree won three consecutive seasons with a program that had not won more than two games in the five previous seasons. His first game as a coach was a win over Vincent 42-12. It was also the season opener for three of his four seasons. His overall record was 1228. Haleigh, his wife, has a son named Gray. Gray is 6 years old and just started playing youth sports. He is still a teacher at the school.
Tyree stated, “I’m just trying my best to spend some quality time with my family and wait for God to open up new doors.” “Being a father is very important to me…. I felt it was time to let go of my family and to see what God has in store for me. It’s been four great years and four years for me to learn. We were able to improve some facilities, and I hope it is better than it was when I left it. Impacting children is the most important thing. I am proud to have been able do that. Although there will be hurt feelings, I assure you that the Wildcats will continue to do what they did. Tyree stated that he believed the school’s leaders would find the “right person to lead our football team and build on the things we have started.”
