Washinton D.C. –U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) is a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, today joined her colleagues in pushing legislation for the year 2024. Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which included almost $434 million in Alabama’s military bases and a new requirement for reporting to Space Command headquarters.

In the bill the bill, the senator Britt directly secured a total of $83 million in improvements and investments in the Alabama military base. An in-depth breakdown of federally-directed funds for Alabama can be found below.


Fort Novosel ($68.2 million):

  1. Army Radar Approach Control – $7 million (requested by Senator Britt)

  • Build the Army Radar Approach Control Facility (ARAC) to assist with Army Aviation training mission.

The Hazardous Materials Storage Facility Hazardous Materials Storage Facility $3.85 Million (requested from Senator Britt as well as Senator Tuberville)


  • Create a brand new Hazardous Materials Warehouse (HMW) and Hazardous Waste Warehouse.
  1. MEDEVAC Ready Building – $6.1 million (requested by both Senator Britt and Senator Tuberville)

  • Build an ready Building that can support 24 hours of operation in the event of an urgent Air Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) team in Cairns Army Airfield.
  1. Barracks Complex – $41.2 million (requested by Senator Britt)

  • The funding will allow the completion of a barracks facility for soldiers in Fort Novosel.
  1. Aircraft Parts Storage Facility – $4.95 million (requested by Senator Tuberville)

  • The funding will allow construction to be completed on the facility that houses aircraft components.
  1. Car Maintenance Storage Facility Storage Facility for Vehicle Maintenance $5.1 Million (requested from Senator Tuberville)

  • Funding will be used to finish construction of the facility that will store vehicles.

Maxwell Air Force Base ($13.9 million):

  1. Construction Air Command and Staff College Construct Air Command and Staff College $5.1 Million (requested from Senator Britt)

  • Construction of an addition of one story and a two-story addition at the Air University’s Air Command & Staff College (ACSC).

Replace (construct) Gunter Fitness Center Gunter Fitness Center $8.8 millions (requested from Senator Britt)


  • Create a facility that will make sure that the health and readiness of military personnel.

HTML1 Redstone Arsenal ($25.3 million):

  1. Airport Runway Extension (overruns) Airport Runway Extension (overruns) $5.5 Million (requested from Senator Britt as well as Senator Tuberville)

  • Create an overrun at the south and north ends of the runway in order to assist Redstone Arsenal Airfield’s numerous DOD as well as DOJ tasks.
  1. Airfield Fire and Rescue Station Airfield Fire and Rescue Station $5.6 Million (requested from Senator Britt)

  • to provide three companies with an Airfield Fire and Rescue Station.

Access Control Building 4 Million (requested from Senator Tuberville)


  • To construct a brand new access control structure to help Redstone Arsenal.
  1. Natural Gas Expansion and Meter Station Meter Station $4.8 millions (requested by senator Tuberville)

  • Update and build the gas meters in Redstone.
  1. Relocation of Test Area 7 – $7.4 million 5.4 millions (requested from Senator Tuberville)

  • Funds to relocate Test Area 7 on Redstone.

The bill drafted in members of the Senate Appropriations Committee also includes almost $326 million of additional Alabama priorities that are backed by senator Britt. The bill includes $65 million to fund the military housing privatization initiative in Maxwell Air Force Base Air Education and Training Command and $7 million for an F-35 Ops Building that will house the 187th Fighter Wing at Dannelly Field in Montgomery and $50 million for an energy substation located at Redstone Arsenal, $57 million to build an Army Reserve Center in Birmingham as well as the $147.975 million ground-test infrastructure project for facilities to support the Redstone Arsenal tenant.

“This vital funding ensures that Alabama will continue to be a leader in protecting our country and keeping it secure. As our adversaries around the globe like China, Russia, and Iran continue to assert themselves in the name of security, I believe there is no more crucial investment than the security of our nation. I am grateful for the cooperation of our delegation as well as local and state leaders which helped us promote the priorities of our state and I am looking forward to fighting to ensure that we return our tax dollars back to those in our community,” said Senator Katie Britt.

Additionally the senator Britt included report language with the unanimous backing of the committee. The bill will make it mandatory for that the secretary of Air Force to provide a report within 90 days after the bill’s adoption, describing the total amount of money that has been committed or spent towards for the building or renovation, or enhancement of facilities for Space Command headquarters. This will ensure that Air Force leaders remain accountable to Congress and are complying with the many independent studies that have identified Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville as the most suitable location for this crucial facility.

“It’s long past the an appropriate time to allow the Pentagon to make a definitive base decision on the future site for the Space Command Headquarters. Each time independent analysis has proved the fact that Redstone Arsenal is the best site for America’s security needs. With the report’s language it is possible to help keep politics from this process.” Senator Britt declared.

The bill also allocates the sum of $16 billion towards veterans Mental health programs, with $3 billion to suicide prevention and treatment programs.

The 2024 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and related Agencies Appropriations Actnow is sent into the complete Senate to be considered by the Senate. It is expected that the Appropriations Committee is expected to push forward additional bills in the next weeks.
