Montgomery (AL) –Secretary to State Wes Allen has officially withdrew from the Electronic Registration Information Center. This was his first act of office.
Allen stated, “I made a promise that the people of Alabama would end our state’s relationship to the ERIC organization.” After being sworn into yesterday, I came to the office and signed the letter notifying ERIC that Alabama was no longer participating in any of their programs. Officially, the relationship between Alabama and ERIC has ended.”
Yesterday, Allen was elected Alabama’s 54th Secretary-of-State. He pledged to end Alabama’s participation with the Washington DC-based nongovernmental organization that runs the voting system.
Allen expressed concern about a private company having access to private data of Alabama citizens including driver’s license numbers and contact information.
Allen stated that “Providing private information about Alabama citizens, including minors, to an outside organization is troubling to both me and people I met as I traveled through the state over the past 20 months.” That is no longer an issue as the data uploads from Alabama to ERIC have ended.
