An magnitude 5.9 earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck Southeast Alaska late Thursday night. As per the Alaska Earthquake Center the quake was recorded in the 10th minute at around 10.46 p.m. it was located off the coast, approximately fifty miles to the southwest Sitka along with 140 miles northwest of Juneau with the depth of around 12 miles.
Houses shaken for a short time at Sitka, Petersburg and Wrangell. The residents of Ketchikan up to Juneau have reported to the USGS that they felt the shaking however, the majority felt it only lightly.
The earthquake occurred close to the Fairweather Fault, that is located in Southeast Alaska.
There are no immediate reports of any damages.
