This is an evolving story that will be updated.

Alaska Republican Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom will run for Congress in the race for the post which is held currently by Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola.

Dahlstrom declared her candidacy in a pre-written statement. She did not respond to phone calls requesting further information.

Should Dahlstrom be elected to the office, Dahlstrom would be replaced as lieutenant governor by a person appointed by the governor. Mike Dunleavy.

In her written statement Dahlstrom said that she is looking to keep her Republican majority of the House of Representatives.

“Alaska requires a seasoned, strong fighter to stop the attack upon Alaska by Joe Biden and Washington D.C. liberals,” Dahlstrom said in her announcement. “Raising my four children and advancing my career within the business world, before helping to support Alaskans I’ve witnessed the way D.C. politicians betray Alaskans every single day. In Congress I will put an end to Biden and the extremist liberals destroying our future, causing financial ruin to our families, destroying our jobs, causing harm to our veterans and military, and jeopardizing our security.”

Republican Nick Begich is also running and began his campaign last month. Peltola defeated Begich and two other contestants in the general election 2022.

Non-partisan presidential candidates Lady Donna Dutchess of Anchorage and No Labels Party candidate Richard Grayson from Apache Junction, Arizona, are also filed with the Alaska Division of Elections as candidates for the 2024 U.S. House race.

According to Alaska law the candidates for the U.S. House will run on one ballot during the primary election in August. The top four candidates will be able to participate in elections in the November general election which will determine the winner. be selected through votes based on ranked choice.

The Alaskan statewide U.S. House district is one of the five districts across the nation to have supported the president of the past Donald Trump in 2020 and the district will be a Democrat to the House by 2022.

The situation has made Peltola a top concern for national Republicans and it is no surprise that the National Republican Congressional Committee has already launched advertisements against Peltola.
