Alaska, like every other state, has a full-fledged member of the U.S. House. Mary Peltola, along with the whole House of Representatives took the oath of office on Saturday morning.

After a four-day battle among Republicans over Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as speaker, the mass swearing in was held. McCarthy prevailed over the remaining members of his party after 15 rounds of voting.

Like all Democrats, Peltola voted 15 times for Hakeem Jeffreys, D-N.Y.

Peltola will soon be assigned to a committee as the House organization is complete.

Peltola was a member of the Natural Resources Committee and Education and Labor Committee during her three-month tenure at the Congress.

She tweeted, “Now the work starts.”
