It appears that the Juneau Director of Administrative Services for the Juneau School District, who manages the budget of the district and budget, has quit. This past Friday, Juneau’s board approved spending up to $50,000 on contract work to fund the upcoming budget cycle of the district.

Cassee Olin had held the position since 2021. Before that, she served in director of the Sitka School District’s manager of business. The resignation came into effect on December. 1 according to the school district’s report. Olin declined to discuss her decision to quit.

The month before it was revealed that an audit conducted by the district found that it finished the prior fiscal year with a $2 million deficit in its operating funds. A lower enrollment rate than was anticipated has pushed this deficit to close to $3 million.


Budget adjustments to reduce the deficit could include freezes on hiring for specific jobs superintendent Frank Hauser said Friday.

The district is in the process of finding a consultant to help them revise the budget for this year and create the next year’s. Will Muldoon, who chairs the finance committee on the school board estimates that the district is facing a deficit of $7 million due to COVID relief, along with one-time state funds comes to an end.

This district in search of the appointment of a new director of administrative services.. Hauser informed the board that the new director would work together with the contractor on the next budget.

Hauser added that other district directors as well as Chief of Staff will be taking on the duties of the chief of staff during the interim.
