The law enforcement officers of Juneau have shut down four blocks around the downtown home to serve an arrest warrant for the ongoing investigation of drugs.
A group of officers in military gear stood in front of the armored Juneau Police Department’s truck at the front of the house at Fifth Street Thursday morning and through the afternoon.
Police spoke through the loudspeaker and fired a few of the police described as not-lethal rounds at the home and broke windows. They repeatedly urged the individual to get out of the house. A number of people stood around to watch the incident.
Based on JPD the spokesperson for JPD and interim police chief interim Krag Campbell, a judge reportedly granted police an order to search the house and its inhabitants within a couple of days after police arrived on the scene at around 10:17 a.m.
Campbell stated that two persons were able to leave the residence early in the search. However, one of them refused to leave the home as of 11:11 a.m. Campbell said he was unable to provide the name of the person still living in the home.
Campbell explained that the search is part of an investigation lasting more than a year regarding the sale of illicit drugs.
At noon on Thursday, officers were shooting occasionally through the windows. Campbell stated that there was no time frame for when streets will be opened again.
