5 year old Axel Boline didn’t have much to say following his plunge into the icy cold Juneau ocean the water Monday’s evening.

For his mother, Amanda Triplett, running into the freezing water with her son along with a plethora of others was the beginning of an entirely new chapter.
“It can be cold and it’s it’s that shock at first however, you emerge afterwards and everyone is smiling and warm and it’s enjoyable to come out and join Juneau’s Juneau people,” she said.
Over a hundred were out on the first afternoon of the new year taking part at this year’s Polar Bear Dip at Auke Recreation Area which has been running for three decades. New Year’s celebration that started that began in Juneau.
The countdown started under a cloudy sky, with temperatures hovering around the mid-30s. Around 1 p.m. precisely the group of brave souls poured into the waters at Auke Bay.
For the majority of us people, it was an excruciating race in and then out to a handful of fires scattered throughout the sandy beach.
It was so for High school students Della Mearig, Zoe Lessard and Miranda Stichert, who said they were the only three who attended from their whole cross-country team. They claimed that they did not mind because a lot of other people attended.
It’s a span style=”font-weight 400 ;”>”It’s so hyped that everybody is here” Stichert said.
Some people were able to get in the water for a while. A dozen Capital City Fire/Rescue swimmers were on hand in the event in the event of an emergency.
Pete Boyd with CCFR said the rescue suits aren’t necessarily the most comfortable to wear in the frigid waters. However, he added that it’s vital to be ready in case something goes wrong and also to help the local community.
The span style=”font-weight 400 ;”>”It’s very nice to be able to demonstrate that CCFR is a part of the community, and that we’re here for everyone,” he said.
Boyd confirmed that there were no reports of injuries or incidents at the sluice on Monday.
