Juneau’s airport parking lot is crowded as people try to leave Seattle.

Patty Wahto, Airport Manager, stated that both short-term and long-term parking lots can accommodate approximately 250 cars. Juneau residents should not park at the airport in the next day.

She said that it was just too extreme right now. “We are seeing cars parked where they shouldn’t, and it’s blocking people .”

Some long-term parking was still available at Mike’s Airport Express on Tuesday afternoon.

Alaska Airlines continues to cancel flights from Juneau. The airline released a press release Tuesday stating that winter weather in the country had left crews and planes stranded.

Wahto stated that it is not local climate causing delaysspan design=”font-weight 400 ;”>. There are cancellations in Anchorage and Seattle.

She said that when it hits Seattle, it can cause a ripple effect as planes are stranded somewhere else.

Geralyn Davis, a Juneau resident, has seen these ripple effects for herself. For a medical appointment, she was scheduled to fly to Anchorage Tuesday morning at 7:30 AM. She discovered that the flight was canceled when she checked her mobile phone at midnight.

Finally, Alaska Airlines booked Davis Thursday morning. However, she now has to reschedule her appointment with her doctor and transport from the airport.

“It’s just a lot of pieces that it upsets when it gets canceled.” She said. It’s just too many pieces that it upsets when it is canceled .”

Davis stated that she would recommend Juneau residents rethink their travel plans for this week.

She said, “I wouldn’t fly if it weren’t necessary right now.”
