Njuzu Marimbas is a regional Marimba phenomenon. If you’ve been able to see them perform, it’s incredible experience. They’re organized and supervised by Betsy Sims.
For the next two weeks, they’ve invited an artist from the guest list to give classes to people in Juneau. Mike Sibanda is a sought-after, world-class marimba music arranger, composer as well as a performer and educator. He was from Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe.
Michael is the Campus Marimba Director at St Stithians College in Johannesburg, South Africa. Michael has more than three decades of experience in the field of training and coaching groups of musicians in colleges, schools communities, festivals, community centers and music camps around the world. He is a certified teacher for Music Education at the Kwanongoma College of Music. He has specialized in the education of African teachers in music, empowering them with teaching abilities, African musical instrument performance as well as instrument production. Michael also has an Bachelor of Music Honors from the University of Pretoria. He has taught in institutions and universities across Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa, gracing some of the world’s stages in the orchestras which he directed.
In addition to instructing, Michael directs Totem Marimba Band, a professional marimba band which performs at a variety of functions and events.
