A pilot from a small plane suffered serious injuries Monday after the plane crashed in Excursion Inlet, about 35 miles to the northwest of Juneau.

Coast Guard personnel responded after receiving an alarm from the emergency locator transmitter on the plane in the 531st minute of p.m. Sunday according to a press announcement from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The crew of the Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk discovered the single engine, wrecked aircraft about an hour and half later and rescued the only person on board who was in a critical condition.

The person injured was taken home to Juneau airport, and then transported to the emergency medical facilities there.
