Juneau people and owners of businesses report that they’ve had issues with their phones over the past few days. The two GCI Landline as well as AT&T cell users have complained about sporadic or sporadic service and it’s unclear what’s causing these issues.

Lauren Hulse lives in West Juneau. Her GCI landline went down on a Saturday morning. It was not back until Tuesday.

Reecia Wilson is the owner of the Juneau restaurant chain Hangar on the Wharf and Twisted Fish. She told her that landlines in both of the restaurants were down after she received a an email from GCI that said the company will be working on landlines from Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
” style=”font-weight 400 ;”>”We did not realize the fact that our phone lines were about to be down for a long time, and, obviously, it caused problems with our restaurant business as we weren’t able to take, well, reservations.” She said. “And obviously, the orders to go were affected. .”
Wilson stated that her phone returned today after she had made an extensive call to the GCI’s tech department.
In a press release on Wednesday afternoon GCI stated that it had repaired the issue, but customers experiencing issues are advised to contact technical support at 800-800-4800, or rcs@gci.com. The statement didn’t explain why the outage occurred.
Juneau Tourism Director Alex Pierce said she noticed the speed of her AT&T telephone was lacking speed in the early morning on Tuesday, but did not stop until a few hours later. She also said she’s aware of the ongoing issues affecting cellphone service in downtown Juneau during the time ships dock.
Its style=”font-weight 400 ;”>”We are aware cruise ships will definitely slow down cell phone and the internet, especially in the downtown areas,” Pierce said. “We aren’t certain of the root of the issue but we’re trying to collaborate together with the cell phones as well as internet providers to understand the cause and find a solution. .”
Six cruise ships were scheduled to be for port on Tuesday with four ships arriving before 8.30 a.m. as well as two ships scheduled to arrive by midday.
Lt. Krag Campbell stated that Juniau Police Department’s dispatchers have no issues in receiving calls until Tuesday.
