U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will travel to Alaska next week.
His office has announced that it will be visiting Kotzebue, Anchorage and Juneau on a trip lasting three days that began on Monday.
The goal of the trip is to draw attention to the record-breaking amount of federal funding for infrastructure in the state, which is made possible through legislation known as the Bipartisan infrastructure law.
The total for the state, as of the month ending in March is $5.2 billion, spread over 934 projects, as per the Biden information sheet from the administration. Around half of the funds is earmarked for bridges, highways and other infrastructure for transportation. In addition, the state stands set receiving $1 billion in broadband expansion, as well as a significant amount of money for water projects.
A visit from cabinet secretaries will also allow the Congress of the state to concentrate the attention of its top officials on its issues. U.S. Senator. Dan Sullivan will accompany Buttigieg in Kotzebue while Sen. Lisa Murkowski will join the senator on his Southeast tour.
Congress adopted the trillion-dollar Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2021. The law was approved by the vote by each of the Alaska senators.
