Juneau residents have until January. 9 to comment on a poll that wants feedback on the best way to develop The city’s 4-acre Telephone Hill Property.


“We’re working to determine what the requirements are in the first place, and then figure out how we could utilize Telephone Hill to fulfill those,” said Nick Druyvestein who is the project’s director.

The survey online began Tuesday and provides an explanation of four concepts that the design professionals of the city presented to the public this autumn.. Participants can pick their favorite option and make suggestions for changes.


Each of the four options adds additional housing units to the region. The lowest density option has 32 units. The most dense option adds 200. According to the city, 17 residents live on the hill at present.


Druyvestein said that the results of the survey will determine how the project will appear like.

The designs vary from townhomes to hotels and apartments. Some designs feature communal spaces for gatherings and tree canopy structures.

Residents who live within Telephone Hill have opposed the city’s plan for redeveloping the area. In two community events to gather public feedback on the proposal, the majority participants said that the city should keep the homes that are in place and not build more homes.


One of the designs proposed will preserve the older houses However, it is still the development of a new area around them.

The survey is available at the city’s website.. Druyvestein explained that the next step is to submit the results to the Assembly to get further guidance. This is likely to happen by the at the end of January.
