The Juneau municipal election will conclude on the morning of Juneau’s municipal election when voting center and drop box closes at 8 p.m.

Four Assembly seats and two seats on the school board and a voter initiative that asks whether to finance the construction of a new city hall are every one of them on the ballot for this year.

However, since by-mail ballots are more difficult to count so we don’t know who was the winner for two weeks. The reason is that the city’s electoral personnel must allow enough time for all ballots that are mailed to them to be delivered. They must also have time to confirm the signatures of ballots and run multiple rounds of counting to ensure the accuracy of the ballots.

What is the result?

All ballots cast prior to Election Day will be scanned and the results will be counted on Tuesday night after the voting has ended.

It’s a style=”font-weight 400 ;”>”Starting on Election Night at 8 p.m. Then, we’ll begin scanning those ballots, and then adjudicate the results,” said City Clerk Beth McEwen. “Adjudication means that we’ll be looking through those ballots, trying to ensure that it was counted according to the way it appears to have been cast. .”

The city is expected to announce the preliminary results of the election after 10:00 p.m. the next day.

Then, election workers will continue to process ballots that were cast during Election Day or that continue to be delivered by mail. They’ll take care of any issues regarding the ballots.

“If there are any issues such as it’s not an signature, or there’s no signature reference, or no personal identifier, if there’s a valid reason for an appeal, that will be handled as a separate procedure,” McEwen said.

The procedure involves sending a letter to the voter, along with instructions on what they have to do to have their vote taken into account.

The city will update results on a regular basis till the Canvass Review Board certifies election results on Tuesday, October. 17.

The results of last election’s Election Night results included 4,834 votes, compared to 9137 votes in the results.

How do you submit your vote on the right date

The voting has been going on from mid-September which is when ballots were distributed to voters. If you’re still not voting McEwen suggests dropping the ballot off at one of the drop boxes in the city located in Statter Harbor or the Douglas Library – and at City Hall or Mendenhall Valley Library voting centers.

If the voters are still planning to mail their ballots Monday, McEwen says they should be doing it earlier. Ballots returned by mail have to be mailed on Election Day to get counted.

“It may be that that the postal office won’t actually process your request until the following day, and the postmark won’t be able to be in place until the next morning,” the woman said.

If Juneau residents plan for voting in person this Tuesday McEwen suggested, “go early.”

span style=”font-weight 400 ;”>”You could be waiting in line” she explained. “We have had a long times with no one coming in the two weeks prior to Election Day, but we expect long lines, possibly an even longer wait for Election Day. This is typically the Juneau trend. .”

If you do make mistakes while filling in your ballot, you may go to a voting center and make a request for a re-fill. Similar to what happens when you’ve filled out your ballot but want to make a change, but haven’t yet submitted it. If you’ve already handed the completed ballot It’s not too late to alter it today.

How do you observe the counter

Anyone interested in witnessing the counting of ballots go to the city’s ballot processing center located at 1325 Eastaugh Way off of Thane Road. The center opened its doors last year in order to count ballots during Juneau instead of heading to Anchorage. The visitors must stay within the public viewing area.
