The National Weather Service is expecting heavy snow to fall in Juneau beginning Friday afternoon. Most shelters will remain open during regular hours through the holiday weekend.


Resurrection Lutheran Church’s warming shelter will be open from Monday to Sunday until at least Jan. 1. The shelter opens at 10:30 p.m. every night, although staff may be available until 9 p.m. in extreme weather conditions.

The Glory Hall will remain open daily from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. during the holiday season. Check-in time for overnight stays at the emergency shelter is at 9:30 pm. Each day they offer three meals and one snack. Chloe Papier, interim executive director, stated that Congregation Sukkat Shalom would prepare Christmas Eve dinner and Glory Hall staff would cook Christmas dinner.


The Sheiyi Xaat Hit Youth Shelter, and AWARE’s emergency shelter will be open 24 hours a day during the holidays.


The Zach Gordon Youth Center will remain closed from Saturday through Monday of this weekend and next weekend. Juneau’s public libraries are closed Sunday, Monday, Jan. 1, and 2.
