There are more than 45 million who switching their addresses each year protecting against identity fraud and securing the mail as well as the privacy of customers is an enormous job. The U.S. Postal Service made some changes earlier in the month that it hopes will improve.
“Recently it was decided that the Postal Service decided to enhance the security procedures that accompany a changes in address.” stated Postal Service spokesperson James Boxrud.
The process of changing address is now accompanied by verification of your identity. Boxrud explained that this is intended to stop identity theft. Prior to this change was made, if you moved in the area, you’d have take a postal card from the Post Office, then fill it in and then mail it into the mail. It is the Post Office would process that for you.
“Now it’s changed. If you’re not able to do this online, it may apply post office and you’ll have to bring in an original copy of your driver’s license or state-issued ID — or something similar to that so that we can verify your an identification that is personal and identifiable prior to us being able to take it in,” Boxrud said.
It could take anywhere from seven to 10 days for mail to be redirected with the new addresses. Boxrud suggests filling out the form as soon as you begin the process of moving.
“You can date it back and say, for instance you’re moving in August. 1.’ and you’ll have to update the change-of-address card so that it will start forwarding mail by August. 1. In this means that all the way until July 31st, you’d still be receiving mail from your home in Bethel. Then it’d begin with the process of forwarding. Then you go to your other locations, and you’ll be fine,” Boxrud said.
If the move occurs following the move of someone, Boxrud said that there are a variety of options to make it happen.
“Go there” usps.com. Visit the quick tools to change my address. You can do it on the internet. If reasons are different, the verification on the internet does not work and, you’re not sure you’re told to visit the post office. You go to your new post office and say”Hi I’m me. This is my identity. I’m moving from the location to Bethel in Bethel to Boulder, Colorado, and I’m required to receive my mail’. Afterwards, they’ll be able assist you at the counter.” Boxrud said.
Boxrud stated that the verification process was launched in July.
