According to court documents, the suspect was charged with shooting at cars and causing numerous collisions in Avondale on Saturday. This resulted in a tragic death of an Avondale barber.

Police arrested Raymond Earl Pipkin (29), following a shooting rampage that took place in Avondale. It left Gabriel Sotello, a Glendale resident, dead at 34 years old, and five others injured, including a boy of 14 years.

According to court documents, the rampage started at 12:30 p.m. at West McDowell Road and North 107th Avenue. A black Honda Acura 2015 driver told police that he felt another Ford Focus driver staring at him as he slowed down at the traffic light.

According to arrest papers, Pipkin asked the driver of Focus if they were “good,” and Pipkin replied by saying “We are now,” before shooting at his car.

Pipkin followed the Acura driver as he tried to drive off, but he was stopped by Pipkin. He collided with another vehicle near the intersection of North Avondale Boulevard & West McDowell Road. Arrest records state that he jumped out of his Acura and ran towards a field, hearing gunshots behind. The shooting did not result in him being injured.

According to arrest documents, Pipkin pulled up to the Dodge Charger black at the intersection and shot into it. This killed Sotello and severely injured a 14-year old boy sitting in the front seat.

According to arrest papers, Pipkin then drove north on North Avondale Boulevard and struck a motorcyclist headon near West Encanto Boulevard. Pipkin then got out his Focus and punched a motorcyclist in the face, before fleeing by foot. According to Avondale police, the motorcyclist was stable.

Pipkin also approached a transient male while he was in his car, near Interstate 10 and North Avondale Boulevard. According to arrest documents, Pipkin had asked the man if they were ready to die before shooting him multiple times. He was stable as of Wednesday when he was taken to Abrazo West Campus.

In court documents, police stated that Pipkin also shot at a Tesla in the vicinity of Interstate 10 and West Fairway Drive. The damage to the vehicle was approximately $5,000. Both the passenger and driver were not injured. The driver also told police that the incident was recorded by his onboard camera, which police took as evidence.

According to arrest papers, Pipkin was taken into custody in the vicinity of North 114th Avenue/West Cambridge Avenue. He was chased by an Avondale officer on foot. Avondale police claimed that they found a semi-automatic pistol from Pipkin’s vehicle.

Officers took Pipkin into custody after he made statements such as, “I’ve murdered people today”, “We’re all going down to hell,” and, “Jesus is coming,” according to the documents.

According to court documents, Pipkin claimed that he was Jesus Christ and that he was being held in the Avondale Detention Facility. He then admitted to the shootings, acknowledging that his actions had caused the death of another person. According to court documents, Pipkin said that he took full responsibility for his actions and would speak out to the family members of the victim he had killed.
